Position Summary

The Residential College Director (RCD) role is a live-in position that manages the day-to-day community development initiatives and services in an effort to create residential living/learning communities.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate undergraduate Resident Advisors.
  • Develop, implement and facilitate on-going in-service training for hall staff with particular attention to community development, programming and human relations issues.
  • Organize and facilitate weekly RA staff meetings.
  • Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate a Graduate Fellow or Assistant Residential College Director (ARCD) (if applicable).
  • Support additional residential student staff and programming (i.e. student tutors, technology liaisons, etc.) (if applicable).
  • Create, implement and evaluate the Community Engagement Model, to ensure dynamic and educational programming in the community.
  • Cultivate a residential environment grounded in social justice values and aligned with the Departmentâ™s Diversity Statement.
  • Utilize restorative justice philosophy and practices as a learning tool for students in the conduct process.
  • Work with live-in and/or assigned faculty to enhance student and faculty interaction in residential areas (if applicable).
  • Advise residential programming board with a specific emphasis on community development (if applicable).
  • Work with students and faculty mentors as part of the BLOC program (upper-class themed housing communities) (if applicable).
  • Manage residential area budget and departmental accounting procedures.
  • Maintain a system of intervention and referral for students experiencing academic or personal difficulties which includes collaborating with various campus partners.
  • Understand, communicate and hold students accountable to University policies and procedures.
  • Educate and inform residents of department policies and community standards.
  • Provide accountability and restore community impact for policy violations through educational and restorative obligations.
  • Serve in the On-Call duty rotation to provide 24-hour incident and crisis response to the larger residential community.
  • Serve on Residential Education committees providing leadership to various components of the Residential Education program and experience.
  • Assist with departmental administration (i.e. staff selection, training, housing selection, operations, assessment, etc.).
  • Serve on various university, division and departmental committees as needed.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with different constituencies, including parents, campus partners and academic partners.
  • Work with academic administrators, partners and faculty to enhance and promote student-faculty interaction in the residential areas.
  • Serve as an active liaison between the housekeeping and maintenance team members.
  • Work with neighborhood associations and campus/community relations to increase positive relationships between residents and our surrounding communities (if applicable).
  • Other duties as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior applicable residential life experience.
  • Successful individuals must demonstrate strong written, verbal and active listening skills.
  • Student-focused as well as have the ability to build strong relationships with faculty, administrators and parents.
  • A desire to learn about and a demonstrated commitment to racial justice work is essential.
  • Desire to work with a diverse group of students at a highly selective institution should also be exhibited.
  • Takes initiative, be ambitious, responsible and able to work effectively both as a member of a team and independently.
  • There are late-night and weekend commitments as well the expectation to be present and visible in their community on an ongoing basis.

Required Qualifications

Masterâ™s Degree in Higher Education or related field required.

Salary Range

$49,700.00 - $82,100.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
