Summary

The Community Relations & Events Specialist will be responsible for driving positive brand outcomes for the Company through a variety of functions including sponsorships, community relations and event planning and execution. This position will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining positive relationships between the J.R. Simplot Company and the communities where we operate, including planning, organizing, and executing various events.

This position is based in Pocatello, Idaho, and is part of the Global Communications and Brand team located at the J.R. Simplot headquarters in Boise, Idaho.

Key Responsibilities

  • Your responsibilities will include: 
  • Community Outreach Programs: Working with local leadership and the broader Global Communications and Brand team, develop and execute community outreach initiatives, events, and campaigns to increase awareness of our organization and its services. 
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Company leadership and teams, community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders to support our organizational goals. 
  • Build and foster relationships with the Simplot Company’s partners, sponsors, and vendors, ensuring contract needs are met and marketing activations have been delivered. 
  • Organize, plan, and execute events: Take charge of events from conception to completion, considering requirements, target audience, and objectives. 
  • Enhancing Event Success: Generate creative ideas to enhance event outcomes and ensure their successful execution. Maintains a positive working relationship with venues, local municipal departments (permits, police, fire), and vendors to ensure long-term relationships and successful events. 
  • Volunteer Coordination: Manage volunteer efforts and coordinate their involvement in community activities. 
  • Budget Management: Prepare and adhere to event budgets. 
  • Operational Oversight: Coordinate event operations, supervise staff, and address any issues that arise. 
  • Event Coordination and Administration: Assist with administrative management of sponsorship and event record keeping, including processing invoices. Coordinate the production, design and delivery of brand-consistent materials for events. 
  • Simplot Games: plan and execute the Simplot Games, including contract staff, donor/sponsor recruitment, budget management, Idaho State University relations, Simplot Games Foundation, Board of Governors, volunteers, and community support. Work with the broader Global Communications and Brand team to Promote Simplot Games throughout the Company and surrounding communities.

Typical Education

Bachelor’s degree in public relations, corporate communications, journalism, marketing, or related fields. 

Relevant Experience

  • 3 years of proven experience as a project manager, operations manager, or in the events space. 

  • A natural connector and community builder with exceptional interpersonal written and oral communication skills. 

  • Ability to prioritize and handle simultaneous projects with multiple internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Well organized, creative, proactive, and self-motivated. Highly detail-oriented and flexible, with a willingness to learn and grow. 

  • Proficiency in MS Office. 

  • Ability to travel 10-15% for events in Boise or other locations in Idaho. 

Other Information

Strong writing, editing, organization, project management and deadline-driven project work is required. Experience in digital communication platforms, web design, and graphic design a plus. Outstanding interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and maintain composure and production quality under deadline pressure. Strong attention to detail.
